  1. No chance of even a cursory glance at the incredible gayness of the other 23 countries at the tournament?

Any list that purports to represent the gay yet does not reference Shanice Van De Sanden’s hair is inherently flawed.

  2. glad we got some ashanti tweet representation. being friends with her on twitter really carried me through all the best and gayest USWNT moments (and every single possible moment to ship tobin heath and christen press)

  3. The love between us and the USWNT will never be a lie!
Also, watching both the World Cup and the Democratic debates helped me come to the conclusion that I would nominate and then vote for a Rapinoe/Maddow ticket any day.

  4. The Dutch team is also incredibly gay, so this will be a very fun final!

    Go Netherlands! (sorry US)

    • Same! I still don’t like football but I’ve got to support my country, so…. Go Netherlands!

    • Is one of the Dutch players married to one of the English players?

I don’t normally follow WAG/HAB culture but I semi remember reading this.

      • I don’t think they’re married, but Danielle vd Donk and Beth Mead are def dating

  5. As someone not on twitter, THANK YOU for this roundup. Also, I need to get on twitter because lesbians are fucking smart and hilarious.

  6. oh you can see me in one of the gif threads! (Luckily the line of the goal net covers my mouth as otherwise you’d get me swearing in slow motion while Tobin looks thrilled)
I was one of the England fans at the match. Mostly it was Americans. All of whom were very lovely.

I’m lucky enough to get to go to the final too. Which team has more out people? I might decide who to support based on that!

    • The US have 4 (Krieger, Harris – who are engaged, Davidson and saint Rapinoe) I know for sure and two who are rumored to be the second couple. The Dutch have 3 I know for sure (Van de Sanden, Miedema, Spitse (captain) who got married last summer and the entire team went to the wedding).

      • The US have 5 openly gay players (Harris, Krieger, Pinoe, Franch, Davidson) and the Dutch have 6 (Dekker, Miedema, Spitse, van Dongen, van de Donk, van de Sanden). So it’s close.

        • Oh that is close! Yay for queer excellence!!!
I once met Pinoe who confirmed that a player not on that list was “not straight”. So that’s a tie. And the fabulous hair competition between van de Sanden and Rapinoe is tough to choose a winner for!

    • Youā€™re so lucky! Please post a comment reporting how your experience went afterwards

  7. PS: You need to click through to read the comments on #16 as they include many straight women wishing they could be gay so they could date Rapinoe!

  8. #3 and half of #13! I am honored!! And both are about Tobin lol. On brand. Stay thirsty, friends!

  9. I feel like ā€œKilling Eveā€ really has revolutionized gay Twitter thirst and flirting substantially.
I mean, well, I canā€™t place Oā€™Haraā€™s face right this second, but I certainly wouldnā€™t have thought to rate the USWNTā€™s hotness by degrees of gruesome murder.

  10. You. All. As a Brit I am personally very hurt that the USWNT busted us out of the final. We didn’t even get to play Rapinoe! That being said this world cup has been a thing of beauty and a joy forever, and ten years ago if I could have foreseen majestic queer women capturing the national mood like this, I would have been crying tiny teenage tears and making it official with the first girl I loved. Twenty bi teen INDEED.

    • I was in my late teens when Rapinoe came out in 2012, and it’s crazy to me how “normal” it’s become in the seven years since then. Now most players aren’t even really coming out; they’ll just casually mention the partners that they’re already open about otherwise. I still have to pinch myself sometimes to make sure all of it is actually real, because it’s so, so different from when I was growing up (and I’m only in my mid-twenties).

As an American, our semifinal was genuinely kind of bittersweet. Y’all were incredible this tournament, and I wish we could have met in the finals instead.

      • This is such a lovely comment, thank you. The American fans at the stadium were similarly lovely.

I also wish we met at the final!

  11. Well, after that performance in the third place playoffs we (England) definitely deserved to not get to the final. Still love it though. What a sport!

  12. Missing: that gif of the 6′ tall Chilean keeper walking around carrying two (2) of her teammates šŸ˜
