Pop Culture Fix: The Last of Us Part II Is Whetting Queer Gamer Appetites

Hi again! I’m back! And so is your bi-weekly Pop Culture Fix

+ Don’t tell Heather I’m accidentally turning her column into a Cate Blanchett fan account, but this had to be shared.

+ The queerly anticipated video game The Last of Us Part II dropped a State of Play preview today.

+ Amazon is turning Girl with the Dragon Tattoo into a TV series.

+ Liz Feldman talked to TV Line about the casual queerness of Dead to Me‘s second season.

+ Speaking of Dead to Me, Linda Cardinelli discusses her newest queer role and her history of being a lesbian icon.

+ Apparently Sisqo is going to sing the Thong Song during the Legends of Tomorrow finale? I’d say I’m surprised but this show it truly anything goes.

+ Married At First Sight’s season featuring a lesbian couple hasn’t even aired in the US yet and people are already being shitty about it.

+ SYFY will be airing the gayest episodes of Wynonna Earp on WayHaught Wednesdays for Pride.

+ If you loved The Half of It, I highly recommend checking out Saving Face, which is now on Amazon Prime!

+ Demi Lovato is the voice of The Trevor Project’s “Pride Everywhere” campaign.

+ GLAAD proved with science what we already knew: more LGBTQ+ representation in media leads to more LGBTQ+ acceptance.

+ The upcoming movie To The Stars is described as a “queer coming-of-age drama” in this review that also uses the phrase “wouldn’t say boo to a goose.”

+ Noelle Stevenson turned herself into a princess and you can too!

+ I don’t really know what’s going on with this movie that looks like a video game, but it’s called The True Tale of Ole Splitfoot vs. The Lesbian Warrior Nuns of the Great White North so I felt like it had to be shared.

  1. Hopefully it turns out okay, but I wanted to mention that the Last of Us Part 2 has some (spoiler warning) possibly problematic additional LGBTQ+ elements that have been leaked.

Although there’s no confirmation about the leaks (and there won’t be until the launch date), the current discussion about them are NOT LGBTQ+ friendly at all, with some sites being very hostile and discriminatory.

So a sad warning to people who want to look up more information about the game or engage in the fandom, there are some hostile conversations right now on the internet.

    • That’s also not to mention Naughty Dog’s awful labor practices- from crunch to making their animators look at Liveleak snuff vids for reference.

    • So it’s seem like the entire newnownext site, no matter the page, redirects toward the youtube channel, so it’s clearly an issue on their end.

      • Oh weird, it links out correctly for me. Strange!! Thanks for letting me know.

  2. Wow, thank you for the She-Ra princess maker link, I gave mine like five characters’ clothing all at once and I love it too much already

  3. I don’t know what’s up with The True Tale of Ole Splitfoot vs. The Lesbian Warrior Nuns but I really wanna find out
