The Lakeview Crew #7: Hold All The Feels
Sometimes you just need to call your friends, breath together, and feel all the feels. Maya may not always be the best listener, but after a hard week, Max and Maya have a heart to heart.

When I finally got the waffle maker from my mom that I’d been waiting for, and my friend Vinh;Paul was gifted an air fryer from his mom, we knew the only way to honor these new kitchen gadgets was to make our own version of fried chicken and waffles. Sarah’s end-of-summer celebration cocktail was the watermelon on top!
This week’s Extra! Extra! turns to other areas of the news. Not because RBG’s death and the verdict on Breonna Taylor’s murder aren’t important. But because sometimes things are so strongly felt, no words could possibly capture their lasting consequence. We turn instead to several trans rights issues, reproductive rights, some disturbing trends on the far right and an update on how COVID-19 is upending this country. To close out, a few stories of small wins; a little bit of hope.
“These roundtables are fun, because sometimes I’m answering and I’m like GOD I’M SO MYSELF and I feel that here. Not just because I feel anxious about whether I really can claim to like these more than anyone I know, but also because my answers are just so aggressively me.”
Topics include Black voters, a bad reality TV show, murder, Judith Butler, how we quarantine, the tyranny of chairs, TikTok, Bath & Body Works, the Eco-Yogi slumlords of Brooklyn, Emily Ratajkowski and Ramona Quimby!
As a sports fan, I’m conflicted. I want to watch Thomas do improbable things. The games are better and more exciting with her in them—I’m fairly convinced that had she been able to stay in Tuesday, the Sun would have swept the Aces in this series and done it handily. She is hands down my favorite player to watch play basketball. And yet I want her to be able to take care of herself, to rest, to get the surgery she needs so she can be even better and so that she doesn’t have to be in pain.
Seeing as the modern police force is an evolution of slave catchers, for a film trying to make a point about how the horrors of the past still exist in the present — it comes across as both ahistorical and like a serious misstep.
“I too have attracted more quality human beings since I came out. Also quality cats and dogs but I am not sure it’s related.”
Powdered hemp cutting into soft, bruised flesh. Jax tries to hook a finger between rope and skin and finds there isn’t room. It excites them.
Shani Mootoo is one of the towering lesbian novelists of our time. In her newest novel, Polar Vortex, Mootoo winds the interior lives of its three central characters like a jack- (or jill-) in-the-box: to the point of explosion.
Joanne Rowling and I might have more in common than she thinks.
When I got to the sword fighting gym, I immediately felt out of place in the way that being the only lesbian in a room full of men holding swords can make you feel.
Roxane Gay on Audre Lorde, Emily Hashimoto on writing lesbian sex, Tessa Gratton on reclaiming genderqueer monstrousness and more.

“At the cultural level, in the US at least, when you say someone is bisexual, the image that automatically generates is of a cis bisexual person. The double erasure of bi+ trans people is something that really hurts and also makes a lot of sense.”
“What does it mean to *be* the bi+ community? Does anything unite us? Can we find what we share and ignore all the bullshit and live into that?”
Minimalist sex toys are foundational sex toys that can keep you coming over and over.
Given that so much discourse is spent on bi people in relationships with binary genders, looking at relationships between bisexual people can be an opportunity to look at more expansive perspectives on bisexuality.
Sarah Paulson on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, Rahne Jones is coming through with cute cat content, Samira Wiley in silk pajamas with zebras on them (!!), and Indya Moore’s curls remain undefeated.
“So many people come to the table with preconceived notions about bisexuality — namely that it excludes trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming folks — and if I was out in the world, identifying solely as bisexual, was I coloring how people saw me? Did my definition of bisexuality matter outside my comfort zone?”
