This week marks the 20th anniversary of Aaliyah’s passing, so there’s been a lot of articles memorializing her. THIS ONE, from a local Detroit paper, is by far my favorite: Remembering and Releasing Aaliyah, 20 Years Later

I think it’s so cool that JoJo Siwa can dance with whoever she wants to dance with! Usually in ballroom dancing men are in short supply so many women (queer or not) learn to dance the leading parts too. I’ve always danced the following parts but that’s because I a)have no sense of rhythm and b) am somewhat submissive and like taking orders.
Made me think of a ballroom dancing event I once was. A bunch of us girls had a bit of a crush on one of the high level competitors, a lady who danced the leading role in the competition. At the party later, one of our friends went over to ask her to dance. The somewhat arrogant dude sitting next to this woman was like “oh, I guess I must, I’m so popular”. And my friend was like, no, not you, her. And she said yes and it was brilliant.
