Proving, once again, that cartoons do it better, Netflix’s Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous ended its fifth and final season by getting real gay. And swoony. Without pulling back on any of the dinosaur shenanigans and found family hijinks that have made the series so great (and, in my opinion, better than any Jurassic™️ series since the original Park).
For the uninitiated, Camp Cretaceous follows a group of nerdy teens who get stranded on Isla Nublar after several dinosaurs escape their habitats. They’re on Isla Nublar in the first place because they’ve been chosen, Wonka-style, to experience a once-in-a-lifetime, up-close-and-personal adventure camping with the island’s dinosaurs. They band together once the dinosaurs escape and traverse the island looking for safe places to rest and plan and try to get rescued. In the beginning, they don’t have any real hope of making it out alive — but they do have each other.
Kausar Mohammed voices Yasmina “Yaz” Fadoula, a standout athlete and especially a track star. She can’t out-run a Struthiomimus, but she can out-run the other humans in her group! Raini Rodriguez voices Sammy Gutierrez, an eager beaver camper with nothing but pure enthusiasm for the whole terrifying experience. They become fast friends when they arrive at camp, then enemies when Sammy reveals she’s been spying for a competing bioengineering-company called Mantah Corp to help pay off her family’s debts, and then friends again (because no one escapes raptors and rexes and Big Game Hunters and dino mind-controllers and genetic mutators and biome shockers and personal poisonings without developing some kind of pal-around situation). They’re both so different. Yaz is a little bit of a cynical loner. Sammy is the most exuberant, social gal in the group. Their friendship blossoms into Real Feelings. And, finally, in the final season, Yaz says them out loud.
When Yaz and Sammy find themselves alone (mostly; Ben’s trying to make himself invisible in the corner), Yaz says she’s been trying to tell Sammy something all day, but she’s been waiting for the perfect moment, but all those moments keep getting interrupted by the giant evil corporation that’s chasing them. She says she simply cannot wait another minute! Sammy’s like, “Wait another minute for what?” Well and finally Yaz blurts out, “I like you! Like a lot. Like a lot, a lot.” And before either of them can even process what’s happening, they get ambushed by a dinosaur. After they’re safe, Sammy says she feels the same, and has for a long time. AND THEN THEY KISS! ON THE MOUTH! IN A KID’S CARTOON!
The series ends with the teens saving the day, of course — and when they’re reunited by video chat, Yaz is hanging out with Sammy and her family on their Texas farm, thinking about college and just enjoying not having to race velociraptors for a few minutes. We’ve come so far since The Legend of Korra!

Last season the subtext was soooo gay, but I didn’t think they’d make it explicit since I’m a millenial used to only straight cartoons and kid shows. But wow, I’m so glad things are changing! The final season overall was great and they really gave each character a great conclusion. So yeah, who would’ve thought that a Jurassic Park show would give us such a great storyline!
I think it’s disgusting how they all of the sudden added this leasbian scene to a kids series …… Times are changing Indeed for the worst for kids ! Stop grooming kids to the LGBTQ agenda when it’s time to teach kids about sexuality parents will do it at thier own time its not up to the LGBTQ community to educate kids 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
My nephew has been obsessed with this show for weeks but now it only bugs me slightly cause gays are there. It’s cool he knows queers exist in the climate we live in now. We have this game where we’ll pretend the banana is a telephone and he’ll tell me it’s my girlfriend (there is no girlfriend.) and then I have exaggerated passionate arguments on the phone with her. It is a banana. What am I doing
Why? I’m sick of the bs indoctrination and Frankie grooming of our pre teen kids. Let the kids worry about sexuality when they’re at sexual maturity. This is just sickening. It’s so sad to think that we have to screen everything we let our kids watch now. While I have nothing against the gay community, it doesn’t need to be taught to my 6 yr old. Leave the kids out of your sexual preferences, let them decide for themselves.

It ruined the show for me. Why can’t kids just be kids anymore? This forceful conditioning is toxic. My son is 5 and loves dinosaurs, he isn’t even thinking about relationships, I’m so sick of this garbage. Can’t even raise our kids safely without putting blinders on them until their of an appropriate age to even consider sexuality. Now i have to pretend there is no season 5 to his favorite show. 😢

Literally how many heterosexual sublots/plot elements are there in the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World series? And how is that NOT conditioning kids to think about sexuality whenever they watch any of these movies?
Whenever people make complaints like this, it’s not really about sexuality and children–sexuality is part of every story we tell, every assumption we make about romance from an early age, the way we perceive relationships between others and ourselves; that’s around all of us all the time. You’re describing your own homophobia, and that’s it. You’re using your son, a human being, to justify that hate. How crass.

I agree this show is not just watched by young teens but watched by young children also why does it even have to take this turn and have a gay couple in the first place it’s a cartoon about kids and dinosaurs not teen relationships
My son and I love watching this show together. We actually both laughed when the 2 girls kissed, but honestly its not necessary. Do we see a straight couple kissing? No. The show is about dinosaurs… for kids who like dinosaurs… not who fancies who.
I would even find it weird if the boy kissed a girl … thats not what the series is about. Again… trying to push an agenda that no one cares about
Yes thank you. My child is obsessed with this show and we are now to those parts and i have to cut it off. There are to many things for children to worry about without having smut shoved down their throats. I totally lost all respect for many shows and their creators. Keep smut in adult films and leave the children alone.

Agreed! That sneak nonsense made me soo upset. So I banned my children from even which the series anymore. Anymore lol, it’s done. And it’s funny they did it in their final season because they knew that stuff wouldn’t fly if they continued it in season 6 and 7. The viewership probably would have plummeted. As the saying goes “go woke go broke” . So I look at that move as completely sneaky and a punch under the belt. A punch under the belt to all the parents that don’t agree with this type of indoctrinating methods for their kids. What a low blow Netflix and the creators of the series did.

Love this! My 8 yo is obsessed with this show. We watched the first 2 seasons together (bc Jurassic Park dinos = scary) but he was brave enough to watch seasons 3 and 4 alone, so I’ve missed the subtext others are mentioning in season 4. I’ll have to catch up!
The pearl clutching trolls going off about this show honestly bore me so much. As a younger queer I would have engaged, but at this point in my life I’m more concerned that my kid is taking away the wrong messages about bioethics from this show 😂

My 7yo son watches this show. He does not need to see people kissing gay or straight. I dont like the romantic relationships at all. Can’t kids be kids and we stop pushing adult ideas on them. Its stupid!
Why? I watched this show with my kids and enjoyed it too! AND again why….why do you need to add the relationship with the girls at the end? Kids don’t need to see that until parents are ready to discuss it with them. This is exactly what is wrong with the world today. I don’t care if whoever is lesbian,straight or a freaking cat. Leave kids out of it…
