You’ve surely heard about Jennifer Beals‘ new FOX show, The Chicago Code that premiered last week to pretty favorable reviews. So far my number one feeling is I Miss Bette Porter, but I’m willing to see this thing through. The good news is that girlfriend was ALL OVER TV promoting on Chelsea Lately, Craig Ferguson, Good Day LA and Access Hollywood. Oh, and so far her Chicago Code wardrobe has consisted purely of a power suit, cop uniform and white tank top, which might pique your interest.
She also gives this really funny/astute quote to New York Magazine:
“There were times on The L Word I longed to be around testosterone, or needed to have more of a balance. I loved being with all the women and I loved the way people processed things so much — and there was a lot of talking going on. About everything. At first I got really frustrated because I was like, “Let’s just do it, let’s stop talking about it.”
Rachel Shelley popped up randomly on Joey Tribbiani‘s new Showtime series, Episodes last week. They film this in London (even though it takes place in LA) so her casting suddenly makes a lot of sense. Also, she does a valley girl accent and it’s pretty fun.
JB isn’t the only girl headlining a brand new series: I’ve been staring at our very own Carmen de la Pica Morales plastered all over subway platforms for her new USA series, Fairly Legal for the past month. Sarah Shahi has also been doing the talk show circuit with appearances on Jimmy Kimmel and The Today Show.
Leisha Hailey has a horror movie, Fertile Ground, out in limited release (wait for DVD) and costars none other than Gale Harold! Warning: She has simulated sex with Brian Kinney and I may be scarred for life. Also, building buzz for the their upcoming second album, Uh Huh Her is doing a 12-date west coast tour beginning in March. Strangely, the Los Angeles dates are April 1-2 falling over Dinah Shore Weekend when every LA dyke makes their yearly migration to Palm Springs. Target demo anyone?
Have you watched The Chicago Code or Fairly Legal? Thoughts/feelings?
The Chicago Code is really good! It was fast-paced, character driven, and has the kind of tension that I like to see in cop shows. Although I could barely pay attention to the plot because Jennifer Beals in a power suit/cop uniform/white tank top= hot! If I’m going to watch this show I need to stop being distracted by her or stop being gay for 60 minutes. Since that’s never going to happen, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to pay attention to the story without drooling all over my laptop.
Yepp. i actually couldn’t have put it better myself, JB in a cop uniform being all tough **swoon**
Fairly Legal physically make me uncomfortable, i tried to watch it twice? and after she went into a guys locker room my gf and i just looked at each other and were like “Never again”
I really do miss Bette Porter
it is mostly just painful to me to look at all these women that I have fallen in tv-love with and see them play different, boring (i.e. straight) characters.
Especially since I always wanted to Carmen to come back like whoa and I know I will try to substitute with Sarah Shahi doing other things and it may hold my attention cause she’s pretty but SHE STILL WON’T BE A BADASS LATINA DJ WHOM I’M NOT SURE IF I WANT TO BE WITH OR BECOME.
/feelings
also, anyone else uncomfortable with how white-ified that promo picture of Jennifer Beals is?
My straight sister has been watching Facing Kate solely to see Sarah Shahi, and she can’t get enough. I haven’t found the time yet, I may just save the back-eps for a beautiful summer’s day inside on a laptop instead of y’know, being normal and being outside like the non-hermits.
* Fairly Legal, sorry about that. Facing Kate was the old name.
Wasn’t sure about Fairly Legal at first but it’s getting better by the week and is turning into a really fun cute show.
Is it just me or does “Fertine Ground” seem like a copy of Amytiville Horror?
I gather that no one else saw that ass tap with Chelsea?
I totally noticed that.
I kind of love The Chicago Code already. Beals can do no wrong in my eyes. Plus she looks pretty fierce in a white tank top.
I will always love Brian Kinney the most.
I can’t be sure whether I like chicago code yet. I watched the first episode and I am unsure if my deep desire to see bette porter in uniform biased my judgment. Honestly, the show could be really lame….I was distracted.
I’m supporting my L Word girls by watching both of these shows. Fairly Legal didn’t hook me right away, but I grew to like it and I mean come on, it’s Sarah Shahi! I keep getting flashbacks of Sharmen…yum. As for the Chicago Code, I watched it this week (first episode), and like it a lot. I am going to school for Criminal Justice and although being “Superintendent of the Chicago PD” isn’t my goal, I am drawn to a show that features a woman in power where men are historically placed. I think it is going to turn into a great show and I hope it is successful in drawing an audience.
“Leisha Hailey has a horror movie, Fertile Ground, out in limited release (wait for DVD) and costars none other than Gale Harold! Warning: She has simulated sex with Brian Kinney and I may be scarred for life.”
Shit. Now I *have* to watch this movie. It’s the Imp of the Perverse rearing its ugly head again.
It’s really hard for me to watch Gale Harold doing hetero things.. Even though he is a hetero. I just can;t do it.. I don;t believe it.
–just wanted to say i found this sentence hilarious:
‘Warning: (Leisha Hailey) has simulated sex with Brian Kinney and I may be scarred for life.’
thanks corkey =)
I couldn’t get the accent in Chicago Code. Jennifer Beals just sounded weird. It didn’t sound like a Chicago accent at all to me. Other than that she was great in it.
not sure if i can handle seeing leisha getting it on with a man, but i’ll give it a shot just to watch her on the screen again :)
