Also.Also.Also: Jeopardy Once Again Has a Lesbian Overloard, and This Time It’s Mattea Roach

Hello! The biggest news is apparently somehow still about Elon Musk buying Twitter, but it’s Lesbian Visibility Day and I simply SHALL NOT deal with that. Here’s so many other things to talk about!

Lesbian ‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Mattea Roach Just Keeps Winning. Celebrating Lesbian Visibility Day, I know that’s right!! Let’s go lesbians.

The Pandemic Inspired a Cartoonist to Explore Their Wuhanese Roots and Queer Identity. This sounds AMAZING!! “In the funny and heartfelt coming-of-age graphic memoir ‘Messy Roots,’ artist Laura Gao unpacks their relationship with their Asianness, queerness and their ever-changing home city of Wuhan.”

Megan Thee Stallion Is a Victim, Says Gayle King. So Why Don’t People Believe Her? I almost didn’t link this because it’s hard where to even catch up Megan Thee Stallion’s case against ex-boyfriend Tory Lanez but saying “she definitely was shot and Tory is trash” is evergreen, so let’s start there.

  1. I love lesbians. I love us. We’re fucking awesome and we do awesome things.
Something really fantastic happened yesterday, Melissa Lucio (who was going to be executed in Texas tomorrow for a crime that never even happened.) was granted a stay and so she’ll be able to appeal to the court to make her case! I was one of those many people who made at least a dozen calls to the governor. https://msmagazine.com/2022/04/26/melissa-lucio-stay-of-execution-texas-death-penalty/

Also Carmen I thought you might like this; so this film actually came out a year ago, I literally just found out about it today but it’s short rom com about two Afro Dominican lesbians falling for each other, don’t know much about the plot but I’m seeing it tonight and it looks really good! https://vimeo.com/651822621

  2. I read Messy Roots, highly recommend! It’s really funny, thoughtful, and personal with super lively art, great stuff.

  3. the twitter takeover made me wonder about that effect on wnba players and the need to have social media presence. like, it’s been a swamp, and now the owner is even more pro-swamp than the last, so does this matter? or is twitter too small a foot print to affect the calculus given the popularity of other social media…

i liked twitter b/c it didn’t make you have an account to view content, and it doesn’t make me sit and watch junk i don’t engage with. i mean, i just want to scan & go. tik tok, fb/ig, and the other one that ppl don’t talk about anymore are all an investment that is more work than my interest can support.

  4. That Slate article on the abortion laws in Texas was really good. A depressing read, but still very good. It’s all about punishing sex and enforcing control. They don’t care about the embryo’s just as they don’t care about fully grown humans.

  5. Should I tell my mom that Mattea Roach is queer? Or should I just let her cheer the “really smart girl”?
