Grace Lavery and Daniel M. Lavery’s Wedding Photos Are Pure Queer Joy

Confession: I am an absolute sucker for weddings. In some alternate timeline, I am a wedding planner, happily helping couples figure out what they want the ceremony to look like, how they want their guests to feel. There is something about celebrating a person and a relationship you trust and love with the people that matter to you most in life that is so touching and hopeful. I’ve been to a fair number of weddings in the last few years (as is expected for someone in their 30th year of life) and I’ve loved them all, sentimental sap that I am. So when I tell you Grace Lavery and Daniel M. Lavery’s wedding was an experience that I am still not quite sure I can do justice to via written word, I mean it.

All the best weddings have an important thing in common: they manage to capture the spirit of the couple; they paint everyone who loves and cares for them in the softest, most generous light possible. Sitting in the gorgeous lobby of the Julia Morgan ballroom, I couldn’t stop thinking about two things: 1. This was easily the most stunning group of guests I had ever seen in one place and 2. That you could feel how much everyone in that space loved Grace and Danny. It was a little overwhelming, the strength and solidarity that enveloped us all. By the time the bride strutted (and I mean strutted) down the aisle to Marina and the Diamonds’ “Primadonna” the room was thick with laughter and love.

I’m so thrilled that Grace and Danny agreed to share some images of that day with you all; selfishly, because I want to re-live every moment I can, and because reveling in as much queer joy as we can is a gift, one that we should hold tight to.

  9. Aaahh I have been swooning over these for weeks!! Robin took such amazing photos, and Grace and Danny look so happy. Truly a self-declared trans royal wedding for the ages.

  17. Looks like it was a lovely ceremony, and those are really great photographs. Great natural compositions that don’t need to resort to cliched gimmicks to represent a beautiful occasion.

  19. I didn’t realize this site celebrated heterosexual relationships…. those get enough recognition literally everywhere else. I come here for gay shit, to put it simply.

  21. Sorry about my other freestanding comment, I meant to reply to another comment that implied that Danny and Grace are out of place in autostraddle because they are a hetero couple.. I highlighted the info from the “about” section from this site where it states that it includes trans peeps amongst everyone else in the lgbt+ community.

    I love these two, so glad they found each other and I agree with everyone else saying how beautiful the wedding was and how truly happy they both look.
