Hey cool kids! How the hell are ya? Happy middle of Transgender Awareness Week! I hope you’re well, your crops are thriving, and your pets are eating like they should. It was finally cold in Austin, like COLD, which meant that I spent almost three full days not leaving the house on purpose. It was great. I also got into a fight with someone after therapy this week which was NOT great. People should not be allowed to talk to me after therapy! Leave me and my swirling thoughts alone! Any tips on becoming a hermit?? I’ll take them.

That’s all I got today, I hope it brought you some joy! I’m gonna think about finals obsessively for the next few days, hopefully finish them, and also NOT ruminate on how I ruin my face to face relationships with my behavior! I am gonna take some time to myself though, maybe clean the house, maybe just cuddle with the cats. I hope you get some time to yourself too, Mercury Rx is over in THREE DAYS. We can make it! Love you, mean it
My former pharmacy tech self saw Mercury Rx and went “ they prescribed you Mercury? Just know that it may be harmful to your nervous, digestive, immune and gastrointestinal systems”
If I remember correctly, Mozart died of Mercury poisoning which he self administered to treat himself for Syphilis. Also the mad hatter in Alice in Wonderland is supposedly based on British hatmakers, who, due to their exposure to Mercury, became insane.
Sorry for the nerd out, but it’s actually a pretty cool element which is woven into our history.
I read it that way too, like, Mercury has a contraindication with like everything
Tips on becoming a hermit? I am one, and I would say this:
There are two reasons why you would want to be one. First reason: you want to dissolve your self by dissolving your ties with the social world of your place and age, commonly called a ‘spiritual’ motive nowadays. Second reason: there is no way, or you see no way, to peacefully exist in a social world you cannot exchange for a better one, for example by going away. The witch living in the wilderness or in some other kind of wasteland is a special case – but I think we are discussing the withdrawal type here.
I would say: this is a harsh thing to do to yourself, so do this only when you see no other way. And if you do, do not pass a life sentence on yourself, this is dangerous. What works for me is being aware that while I, seemingly, ‘do nothing’ but function in order to stay alive, the people who caused me to take this step ( in my case the queer ‘communitie(s)’where I live and their transmisogyny) do not control the world, and (as Snow pointed out to me) they certainly do not control me. What lasts longer lasts longer ( Gregory Bateson), and that may happen to be me.
Thus, what you end up with is playing the evolution game in a certain manner, and not throwing your life away.
Thank you for the truly beautiful article by Xoai Pham!

i think i ghost-wrote that library article! in elementary school i always beat the librarian there and after a few years of me sitting against the locked doors when she arrived she got me a key. imagine, if you will, a peak-awkward fifth grader, mullet and all, striding into school to open up the library for the day. i had the passwords for the computer system and checked books in and out, fed the fish, reshelved returns. by the time the librarian got there she only had to worry about starting the coffee
