Everybody lies. But horny people lie more:

“In the study, researchers exposed one group of its 634 student participants to sexual stimuli (a meta-horny move by the researchers, IMO), and the other group to neutral, non-sexual stimuli. The participants who got the sexual stimuli did more deception-lite work in order to manage how they came off to another study participant (for instance, horny participants were more likely to alter their preferences on a mockup dating profile to better conform to the preferences on a potential partner’s profile when they believed the partner would see their choices). Other deceptions included lying about their past number of sexual partners and appearing more agreeable than they were instructed to be.

‘People will do and say just about anything in order to make a connection with an attractive stranger,’ Gurit Birnbaum, one of the study’s authors, said in a press release. ‘When your sexual system is activated, you are motivated to present yourself in the best light possible. That means you’ll tell a stranger things that make you look better than you really are.’ Where is the lie?”

Still thinking about finger size flexing on Tinder.

This story about a woman’s ex stalking her for months through an app connected to her car is terrifying and also a great reminder to check your privacy and security settings regularly.

Why is there no law against revenge porn?

“If nude or explicit photos make a person ineligible to run for office, we’re going to be hard pressed to find many young people — young women, especially — who will pass that test going forward,” writes Jessica Valenti on Katie Hill’s resignation.

For Vice, Archie Bongiovanni wrote about the problem with Instagrammable sex toy stores:

“Look: If an Instagram-chic sex toy store is your jam, go for it. Folks deserve to have a comfortable experience shopping for toys—I’m sure, for some, a neutral aesthetic is part of that. I’m all about meeting people where they are and destigmatizing sex toys for folks who’d be hesitant to buy a vibrator otherwise, and Instagram can be a wonderful tool for spreading information about sex education (that is, when Instagram isn’t actively censoring sex workers or deleting someone’s profile because they photographed themselves with a sex toy). But established feminist sex stores aren’t inherently “sleazy;” they offer specialized care and community connection, too.”

Here’s how to break up with someone you love:

“Sometimes it’s hard to turn off your emotions when your partner is sitting right in front of you. You’re about to say the words … but then you notice how cute they look, and you start thinking about all the good times you’ve had, and suddenly you begin to question why you wanted to break up with them in the first place. This is where willpower comes in. “If you’re ready to make the decision [to break up], then it’s important to be firm about it, and not do this push/pull with your partner and make them think that there’s hope when there’s not,” Dardashti says. “The most important part is the conviction of knowing that the issue is more important than your momentary feelings of affection and adoration.””

  1. I have SO many questions about that study. How were the participants “exposed” to stimuli, and what were they?

I mean all that keeps coming to mind is that one person’s 🍆 is another person’s 😝 is another person’s 🍯 is another person’s 😸 is another person’s 🍦

    • Exactly! And what was the ‘neutral’ stuff? There are people who have ”things” for buildings so if there was a pic of some place that hit their spot that wasn’t neutral either..

    • “Participants watched either three erotic or three non-sexual videos (i.e., three different couples making out or three different couples engaging in an intimate and lively conversation)” (hetero couples, of course…)
