Hello, hello, helloo!!!! How the heck are you? Did you happen to catch the 15th anniversary concert for Wicked? I did and I felt all of 15 years old and VERY emotional watching Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel hold hands!!! I really wanted to hand out candy this year, but I’m glad no one showed up because getting to watch that was a hashtag blessing. Y’all, there’s so much good news this week! And some of it is political! I’m so excited to share it with you!
Broadway Is for Lesbians
Yeah, the first scene is basically Joan coming out to her mother about hearing voices. Emotionally, I drew on the fear and agony of my own experience coming out to my mother—that need to hide it from her until I couldn’t stand it anymore, until I was forced to confess. If Isabelle hadn’t kept nudging Joan—“I know something’s wrong, I know you’re different”—I imagine her daughter would’ve taken off without telling her.
+ There are at least five different queer-inclusive plays in NYC right now that you can see.
+ The Birdland Theater presents “Queering the Stage: Introducing Ring of Keys” on November 15.
Ring of Keys, making it’s Birdland debut, is a national network of queer women+, trans, and gender non-conforming professional artists working on and offstage in musical theatre. Queering The Stage is a celebration of Ring of Keys’ members and their work. Audiences can expect to hear gender identity and sexuality norms turned on their heads – queering songs, characters, and the stage! Backed by a 3-piece band, Queering The Stage is an opportunity to create visibility at the intersection of gender identity, sexuality, and musical theatre. Ring of Keys strives to kick (ball-change) the closet door open to create a vibrant, diverse musical theatre landscape for the future.

Politicking Ain’t All Bad
+ Two bisexual women are important in many ways this election.
It matters for bisexual people to see themselves represented in political life, not only because it tells other bi people that they can participate, but because it also forces the straight and gay community to understand their own biases and learn more about bi people. For bi women married to men, such as Katie Hill, there is an attitude among both straight and gay people that she doesn’t have to talk about her sexuality — as if this particular identity were optional or as if her marriage to a man cancels out her attraction to people of other genders. In a profile about Hill for The New Yorker, Dana Goodyear wrote, “She is married to a man, Kenny Heslep, but identifies as bisexual” as if her marriage to a man were a contradiction.
+ Caitlyn Jenner donated $30,000 to Mulligan’s Manor in Tempe, AZ
+ These five black women could help make history this year. (Also, there are over four hundred black women running for office this year ??)
Feel Good Stories for Your Tender Hearts
+ Ria Cooper is the youngest trans woman in the UK to open a salon. She got the idea to open a salon that catered to the needs of trans women after the difficulty she had going into salons after transitioning as a teen. The salon offers appointments from two to six hours so clients can not only get pampered, but learn skills they might not already have, and leave feeling confident and ready to face the world.
+ This lesbian couple with a shared youtube channel had a Harry Potter themed engagement and it is VERY SWEET! (start around the 32:00 mark to see the proposal!)
+ Here are six queer webcomics you might love!
Alrighty dandelions, I hope your Sunday is full of magic and good food, music, and pals. I can’t wait to do this with you again next week!

“Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too? Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayer.”

Wicked’s quinceanera oh my
Look y’all, Autostraddle is what gets me through my work day and reading about beautiful Harry Potter themed proposals that make me cry happy tears at my cubicle are messing with my perception as the emotionless slightly aloof transbian that people think I am here. People are starting to realize I do feel things and I’m getting awash in positvity and happy feelings.
When I first read the subheadings I thought it said “Potluckin ain’t so bad” and I was about to be really excited about relevant links to queer potlucking resources.
