GLEE: Brittany & Santana Aren’t Gonna Fall in Love, Become Girlfriends

BRITTANY & SANTANA:

The Advocate interviews Heather Morris (Brittany from GLEE) and confirms there probs will never be a Brittany-Santana moment.

In one very buzzed-about scene earlier this season, Santana said, “Sex is not dating,” to which Brittany replied, “If it were, Santana and I would be dating.” Naya Rivera recently told Maxim that she asked director, Brad Falchuk, “are we doing this because she doesn’t know what sex means, or did we in fact hook up?” Brad apparently told her, “Oh, no, you hooked up!” So what did you think when you first read those lines in the script?
I asked Ryan Murphy about it too. We were like, what does this mean for Brittany and Santana? [Laughs] Because Naya and I are best friends off-camera too, and we’re always together, so that’s always sort of been a joke with the writers. But I think it’s great. I know some younger girls go through confusion, and I had friends who weren’t sure about their sexuality at that age. So even if it’s never spoken about directly, it’s great if someone can relate to that. I’m glad Ryan Murphy touched on it a bit for people who might be struggling with that.

I didn’t think it would ever been addressed again, but Santana and Brittany held hands during a recent episode and tried to lure Finn into a threesome. Santana even said, “You buy us dinner, and we make out in front of you. It’s, like, the best deal ever.” Are the writers just teasing us here, or will there ever be some sort of payoff?
I’m with you because I’m always anticipating getting a script that’s going to be about our love story line, but I don’t think I ever will. Brittany and Santana are just best friends, and you know how sometimes best friends tickle each others’ arms and hold pinkies?

Yes, and I know where arm-tickling and pinky-holding can lead. You don’t think we’ll ever see a Santana-Brittany makeout session?
I don’t think so. I asked Ryan about that, and he said there was no way. He said that since we’re a prime-time television show, he didn’t want to do that.

Some fans may be disappointed to learn that Brittany and Santana aren’t ever going to be a bisexual couple.
I know. We’ll see what happens.

How do you see Brittany and Santana’s relationship?
It’s like Brittany’s a lost puppy dog and Santana’s her owner, so she follows Santana around and does whatever she tells her to do because she doesn’t know how to do things for herself. Naya and I have talked about their relationship, and we do think Brittany’s just dumb and crazy about Santana, like, “I’m her best friend and I love her so much!”

Well we all know where that can lead, but perhaps not this season! Next season is looking good as rumor has it the duo will be upgraded to major character status. In the meantime, there’s always fuckyeahbrittanysantana.

Last night’s episode was kinda depressing, although we were super happy that it featured Kurt & Mercedes & Sue Sylvester & K-Chen! There was a lot of sadness and feelings and not as many upbeat musical numbers.

ADAM LAMBERT

Adam Lambert goes on tour:

The Lambert Army will finally get a chance to check out Adam Lambert live when he kicks off his Glam Nation Tour on June 4 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. For the trek, he’ll be bringing along fellow “American Idol” alum Allison Iraheta and guitarist Orianthi.

While most of the announced tour stops in support of his For Your Entertainment album take place in June, more summer dates will be added. The tour winds up on September 18 in St. Petersburg, Florida, with stops all over the country in between. (@mtv)

RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE:

Last night, it was time to put away the big hair and glitter, as this season’s competition came to a very dramatic, over-the-top close. (Fitting!) While we know who won, there are many questions yet to be answered: RuPaul’s Drag Race Finale: Wig-Snatching & The Crowning Of A Champion (@jezebel)

The Candy Slice Girls, who did their first ever interview with Autostraddle.com, and whose lovely faces graced our Dinah Shore lanyards, are obviously rising stars, as evidenced by their new video popping up everywhere, “Nothing On You, Betty White”:

SARAH MCLACHLAN:

Interview with Sarah McLachlan:

AE: What do you think about your huge lesbian following? You’re somewhat of an icon within the community.
SM: Am I? Why?

AE: A lot of readers identify with your music and Lilith Fair has just become such a part of the lesbian cultural landscape.
SM: That’s one of the greatest gifts about music — whether you’re gay or straight, it’s just so fantastic to hear that something I helped to create has a positive impact in a stranger’s life. That’s such a gift for me.

  1. I IMDB’d Anna Chlumsky recently (‘Cause you know Gold Diggers turned me gay for real) and once I picked my jaw up off the floor, I asked myself, why is that face not all over my tv?

    • Oh, Anna Chlumlsky. I too have loved you since Gold Diggers. Please come back. And maybe do a lesbian movie just for me, okay?
      Love- Mo

    • Thank you! I watched, Gold Diggers, so many times I wore out the tape. So, obviously, when I saw your response, I had to IMDB it and Holy Homosexuals In A Hot Tub, those pictures were gayer than I could ever have imagined…though I’m pretty sure it was Christina Ricci with her pasty skin and sullen gaze who turned me.

      • I loved My Girl… I actually saw Anna in a play Off-Broadway about three years ago. I was like HELLO BLAST FROM THE PAST. She was great! She’s not redic skinny like most actresses which I was happy to see, she looked hawt.

  2. Glee was insanely emotional and totally made me cry. Agron was awesome in this episode. She’s adorable and sweet and hormonal. Hopefully she’ll stay this way after the baby shenanigans and go after Berry. A 3 out of 12 gay ratio is very low for a glee club.

  3. OMG, that Betty White video was hilarious, yet slightly disturbing! Awesome.
And I’m sure I am going to get in trouble for not knowing, but why do you all/AS love Adam Lambert so much? I guess I just figured he’d be more for the gay guys? Enlighten me if you don’t mind!

    • Well, tbh I don’t love him so much as people who write funny things on this website do, but um… He’s super sexy? Doesn’t take a penis to see that. And also, um… He does funny/terrible/awesome things. Sometimes all at once.

    • I think because he plays with gender boundaries a lot, we genuinely like his music, and before Adam Lambert entered our lives (we’ve been into him since he auditioned for Idol and writing about him since that point as well, but clearly he is now famous as we have our FINGERS ON THE PULSE PEOPLE) we were all similarly obsessed with David Bowie. He’s really sexually confident and I dig that.

      • Ok, good to know! I can sorta see the appeal, but didn’t realize you guys were on top of that so early! I probably will sound old, but I can relate more to the Bowie thing than Glambert! Glad to have it figured out.

  4. That a cappella video beats every Bad Romance tribute/cover/video ever made forever and ever amen.

  5. that T+S video was just what i needed to lift my mood at the end of a bad day. thank you Autostraddle.

  6. Anna Chlumsky! She’s from Chicago (the s/w suburbs, really) and my cousin knew her when we were little. She’s all grown up but with exactly the same face. It’s kind of weird.

  7. “He said that since we’re a prime-time television show, he didn’t want to do that.”

Wow. That sort of rubbed me the wrong way…I love me some Glee, but I’ve been having issues with the stereotypes-as-characterization-in-an-ironic-fashion, and now I don’t even get to see girls kiss each other because it’s too racy?

Does that meant Kurt won’t get any love, either? Only the straight kids get to make out? Or is it just the women who get over-sexualized?

…Or maybe it’s just a tv show, and I should be slower to be outraged.

    • I know! The first ep of the new season just aired here in Oz, and Will made out with two women. Come on!
I also want Kurt to get a bf because that would be adorable.

  8. Jen, it rubbed me the wrong way too. I had said awhile back to be careful because Ryan Murphy is known for being piss poor about dealing with same sex romances involving women.

Riese, is it time for an Autostraddle petition to let Mr. Murphy know Brittana is what a lot of people want to see…and it isn’t just us or straight men. People like the thought of these two together.

    • I must be the only person who doesn’t like the idea of them as a couple. They seem like straight “girlfriends” to me, like they braid each others hair or something.

      • Brianna, we already know they are having sex. BTW, is “braiding each other’s hair” a euphemism;) Seriously though the only reason I would know of that people would define them as straight is by looks and I hope that myth is not the case. I particularly liked how uninvolved and bored Santana was after having sex with Finn. Anyways subtext was nice for the 1990’s and early 2000’s but it is now time for same sex couplings of all variety’s. And yes hot cheerleaders do fall in love with each other.

        • Too good. How many remember back in high school where you were able to hide behind the “they are just close straight friends”. I remember getting away with everything because of those assumptions. I spent my last Summer before college with my girlfriend sleeping in bed with me. Why? Because were just close straight friends. That is what Ryan may not get. A lot of those so called close straight friendships went over the line into same sex loving and no one found out – well until the Junior year of college.

          • God, that’s so me and my high school best friend. We were just REALLLLYYYYY REALLLLLYYYYYYY close from 9th grade to when we graduated… and then we dated briefly in college. :P

    • I half agree, or a quarter or something. I like the idea of them as a couple, but I almost think it would be way cooler for it to remain subtextual. it keeps it fun and speculative, and we gays will always know it’s there but it doesn’t run the risk of being sensationalized. The whole two cheerleaders thing raises a warning sign for me personally, and it’s still mainstream TV so there would be a LOT of room for fuck-uppery. My own imagination is neverending and far raunchier than Fox.

Not to say a sextastic song and dance between the two of them wouldn’t be TOTALLY welcome.

Ps. that a capella group, aces.

  9. I’ve only just noticed the new default avatar! I love how it just gets subtly snuck in there so you can tell something is going on, you’re just not sure what yet, then the joy of it hits you. A lot like surprise wake-up sex.

  10. I had to bring this back up again – it’s sad that RMurphy said that “since we’re a prime-time television show” he “didn’t want to do that.”, but I’m also so thrilled at how far we progressed! I mean seriously, from ‘no chance of it happening’ to the two of them getting married? The writers turned a full circle!

  11. I loved reading this especially because HeMo was told by Ryan that there would “never be a makeout session” oh my how the times did change
