Some weeks ago, I saw an article on Gadgette about nerdy tea blends. Alas, there doesn’t seem to be any more tea left in that Etsy shop, but it did get me thinking about the steaming warmth of a nerdy mug to put tea in, even if it isn’t tea named after Firefly. I went forth and found a shocking amount of nerdy mugs, so here are, in particular order, the nerdiest mugs one can currently purchase on the internet.
- Player One/Player Two Mug Set ($24).
- Mister Rogers Sweater Changing Mug ($15). Heat changes Mr. Rogers from a sport coat to a sweater. Also get the look to go with the mug.
- Banned Book Mug ($15).
- I’m An Engineer Mug ($15).
- Doctor Who Text Game Mug ($15).
- Disappearing Dinosaur Mug ($15). Heat turns the dinos into fossils. Couple with a visit to the Museum of Natural History to see the Titanosaur.
- Hello World Mug ($12.50).
- Freudian Sips Mug ($15).
- Han Shot First Mug ($10).
- Wonder Woman Through The Years Mug ($15).
- I Am Sher Locked Mug ($12). Heat fills in the password. Kinda like in the actual episode, eh? EH? *elbow nudges*
- Tesla Patent Mug ($16).
Oh, and PS, I did manage to find you Second Breakfast Tea and Butterbeer Tea to put in your nerd mugs, so. Proof that the internet is magic.
These might not be QUITE as nerdy, but they are still the best mugs I own, and the best birthday gift I’ve ever received:
OH MY GOD.
Those are just perfect.
I would also add that they are ENORMOUS.
Would it make sense canonically if they weren’t?
I really want that Banned Books mug though…that would be an excellent addition to my collection.
my bff got me that banned books outlast year for my birthday, and it is kinda magnificent.
I’m a (brand new!) public librarian and thus I need the banned books mug! It’s going on my Christmas list.
I have this fantasy that in the future, all librarians will be queer, and we’ll take over the world (i.e. make the world a better, more open place) by handing strategic books to youngsters at the exact right time in their development
Although I just realized that the problem may well be the kids who grow up never SEEING the inside of the library, or even the inside of a book…
I’m a sucker for a good heat-activated mug.
You’d like me, then. :D
Sorry – Australian sense of humour (‘mug’ equals idiot, heat-activated … yeah, never mind)
Suddenly this entire article has changed meaning for me.
This inspired me to purchase a BB-8 mug for my s/o and I figured some other people out there might be interested as well! :)

My room mate has a tremendous mug which is covered with images of different doors. When it’s filled with hot coffee, the doors open and all these famous gay historical figures come out of the closet. :^D
I need this in my life. Now. Where did your roommate get it?
That is AMAZING!

Here y’all go!
So the Butterbeer tea is sold out (because I just bought the last one :D ). But here’s another one for you. Bonus: you can get it as part of a “Magic Potions” set.
Someone gave my friend the whole set of Harry Potter teas a few years ago, and they’re really good!
Seriously, this heat-activated marauder’s map mug may have changed my life forevs

you’re welcome
This Tardis mug has been on my wish list since forever:
And I’m waiting for the day someone will invent a mug that’s bigger on the inside – my life would pretty much be complete.
Didn’t this mug make an appearance in Carmilla? :-)
Yes! It’s exactly like Laura’s mug. She’s a tiny gay nerdy whovian like me ❤
I feel my nerdishness is not served well enough by my mug collection which I have sworn to purge tmrw! So maybe once I’ve got rid of a few I can add one of these to the collection. But which one!
Adagio teas has TONS of fandom blends. They come with adorable fanart on the tin too.
who is going to obtain this mr. rogers mug for me
bring it here, into my presence
I want those teas, specially that Lord of Rings one and the Mad Hatter one the seller also makes.
Oh mugs.
My partner doesn’t really get why I need so many of them and why I am so specific about what beverage goed in which mug.
My favourite is the Male Tears mug that I keep at work to passive aggressively sip from when faced with dipshits who challenge my authority.
I could still use a good Star Wars mug though. Any suggestions for good, non-standard ones? (Preferably Force Awakens and ideally with Hux and Kylo Ren on it. #kylux #ihavenoshame)
I thought I had found the perfect Star Wars mug http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/f39d/, and I was even able to order it with reward points, but then it broke during shipping not once, not twice, but THREE times! The UPS Gods don’t want me to have cool mugs.
* insert here a lame joke on how the UPS was too strong with the Force *
i have that dinosaur mug, and it’s fantastic. it’s a nice large size, perfect for tea.
don’t run it through the dishwasher though…. i learned that the hard way.
I may have startled innocent bystanders with dolphin noises, but that Mr.Rogers mug.
I NEEDS!
Winter is when I drink tea and when I wear my sweater vest. The one that makes me feel like I am getting a hug and am Mr. Rogers while looking like serious adult type person.
Fate says gimme mug, but evil wallet gnome says no
How slay evil wallet gnome? OnO
I want the Sher Locked Mug
I have a mug I got for my birthday a few years ago that’s one of my faves. It’s covered with insults from Shakespeare. Some good ones are “Highly fed and lowly taught” and “All eyes and no sight” or “The soul of this man is his clothes”. Love it!
Oh, one of my housemates has that mug! It’s taken great self-control on my part not to nab it for my very own.
My fav thing about the Shakespearean insult mug is that on the bottom it says something like “for best results use other side”
Thanks for adding my teas to this awesome list….. Must stop looking…. Will buy all the mugs!! ;)
I used to have a Kirk and Spock mug that was the pride and joy of my tea shelf. Alas, I dropped it on the sidewalk in front of the English building, and it’s gone to wherever loyal dishes go in the afterlife.
Remember the episode of Mr Roger’s where the go into the picture to a Crayola crayon factory and all your mesmerizing dreams came true?
Yeah so do I
The nerdiest thing I own is a Linux cheat sheet shirt with basic bash commands written on it upside down for easy reference
This shirt has actually made my life much easier, because Im not very tech savvy and I don’t use my computer often, but I put an arch based distro on it and frequently forget how to untar a tarball or, like
… Change directories
MICHOU
Because of that Mister Rogers’ segment, I spent several of my early years just sorting my crayons by color and calling it “Crayon Factory.” Sorting things by type is never not satisfying.
I can confirm that the disappearing dinosaur mug is awesome. But whatever you do, DO NOT put it in the dishwasher. :(
NERD MUGS!
All my mugs are nerdmugs, mostly free giveaways. These include the yearly mugs from the ACS (american chemical society), with each year of membership corresponding to the appropriate element on the periodic table. But my favorite mug was an actual glass beaker, given out by one of the venders at an ACS conference. It was just like the kind you would use in a lab, only it had a handle attached. Sadly, I dropped it while making tea, proving that I am just as capable of breaking things in the kitchen as in the lab… :(
