Hello and welcome to this thing we’re doing where we help you figure out what you’re gonna put in your mouth this week. Some of these are recipes we’ve tried, some of these are recipes we’re looking forward to trying, all of them are fucking delicious. Tell us what you want to put in your piehole or suggest your own recipes, and we’ll talk about which things we made, which things we loved, and which things have changed us irreversibly as people.
Sometimes it’s fun to get caught up in an elaborate 20-ingredient-not-including-staples recipe that takes intense concentration and most of the day. But other times, it’s nice to put the joy back into cooking (or convince yourself to start cooking in the first place) with simple, straightforward but still exciting recipes. Not all of the recipes below are fast, but all have fewer than five ingredients. (Not including salt and pepper and optional lemon and such.)
That peach and plum caprese salad looks like a salad I could actually get behind!
All of this looks tasty.
Try Linguine with Parmesan, olive oil, roasted zucchini and onions. Simple but tasty.
Poor and don’t know when your next meal will come?
White rice, potato and corn beef hash will make a filling meal. So will ramen noodles with egg. Bean and egg tacos. Tostadas are very cheap to make.
Anything is better than what I was stuck with for one year….mustard sandwiches. Gooey yellow slime on a toasted slice of bread…Yuck. :P
These are all really good suggestions. I like to make ramen with poached egg and maybe some frozen peas, so there is something green in there. Bean and egg tacos or tostadas are delicious as well.
Never thought about adding frozen peas but it sounds great. I will usually add some green onion that I grow on occasion or cabbage. Have you tried only using half the seasoning packet and using the right amount of ginger and fish or soy sauce? It makes it better!
Yes green onions are good too! I haven’t tried the ginger/soy but it sounds good!
these are amazing, thank you!
I am baking the beer bread as we speak, and am planning on making more of these this weekend. Thanks for pulling these together and sharing, this is fantastic!
Thanks for this, I have been in such a cooking motivation slump lately and this helps a lot!
I’ve made those three ingredient energy bars before, they’re good and super easy.
Thank you so much!!!! It’s been really hard to motivate myself to cook lately. I’m making the skillet chickpeas tomorrow. <3
Thanks for this! As a student living alone with a minimalistic (haha!) kitchen, this is very helpful. I hate when I look for recipes and recipes labelled as “quick” end up having 20 ingredients that I don’t have!
I’ll be checking these out soon.
I can vouch for the beer bread. It’s excellent with chili (which, by the way, can also be under 5 ingredients – ground beef, beans, tomatoes/tomato paste, onion, garlic).
Great post. But it’s “Five Ingredients or Fewer” hehe
I tried to comment – your photos are great – but it wouldn’t let me without logging in. Gorgeous site!
